Autumn willow is a tall, shrub willow that grows at the margin of lakes, streams, marshes, peatlands, and calcareous wetlands on wet sand, silt, muck, or peat. It has glossy brown stems and deep green leaves. It gets its name because it produces catkins so much later than all other willows.
